How much do small removals cost?

There is no fixed industry definition of a small removal. It usually means a packed room, studio or one-bedroom flat, a student room, or part of a home rather than every room in it. A few pieces of furniture travelling with boxes and bags can fit the same category.

One published starting point is Checkatrade’s estimate of £400 to £500 for a small local move within roughly 50 miles. Treat that as a guide rather than a tariff. Published examples use different distances, property sizes and levels of help, so a single national average can only tell you so much.

The three examples are not directly comparable. They use different property sizes, distances and assumptions about the work included, so the table is best treated as market context rather than a price for your move. Your own quote still has to account for the staircase, the parking restrictions and the chest of drawers that will not turn through the bedroom door.
03 / What changes the price of a small move?
A small-move price usually changes with the amount being moved, the distance, access at both addresses, the number of people needed and the collection date.
What you are taking with you
More boxes and larger furniture need more space and take longer to handle. Leaving items off the list may give you a lower-looking quote, but it also leaves the quote short of the actual job.
How far it is going
A move across town and a move from Bristol to Newcastle can contain the same belongings, but the driving time and mileage are completely different. Both postcodes matter.

An accurate quote starts with the same clear information: both addresses, the full load, the access and the help required. Walk through each room as you make the list rather than relying on memory.
07 / How can you reduce the cost?
If there are things you no longer want, reducing the load can bring the quote down. Before asking for prices, sell, donate or recycle anything that is not going to the new address. Pack loose belongings into sensible, labelled boxes so they can be handled safely and counted accurately.
