Older houses over several floors
A lot of Brighton and Hove houses are older terraces. Some go up three or four floors, some sit on steep streets and plenty have steps up to the front door. It all affects how long a move takes, so it’s worth telling us about.
Furniture on the upper floors
Let us know which floor the bigger pieces are on and what the stairs are like, especially any tight turns near the top. If the staircase is a tight one, you can reply to our email with a couple of photos.
Steps and steep streets
Mention any steps up to the door and whether the street outside is steep or narrow. If there’s nowhere to park close by, you can ask the council about suspending a parking bay for the day.
The number of bedrooms gives us a rough idea, but two three-bedroom houses can be very different moves. The price comes down to what you’re taking, both homes and the journey between them.
Everything that’s coming with you
Think beyond the main rooms. The loft, the garage, the shed and the garden furniture can add a lot to a move, so include them along with a rough count of boxes.
Your new home
The price covers both ends of the move, so tell us about the new place as well: how many floors it has, any steps to the door and how close a van can get.
Where you’re going and when
Let us know your destination and the date you’re aiming for. If you’re moving further afield, tell us roughly when you expect to get the keys, as that decides when delivery can start.
Steps up to the front door are worth mentioning when you ask for a quote.

It depends on the size of your home, how much you’re taking, how far you’re going and how easy both houses are to get in and out of. Put the details into the form and most moves get a fixed price on screen straight away.
Can I get a quote before we have a completion date?
Yes. Tick “Date not set yet” in the form and you’ll still see a price. The date will need to be confirmed when you book, and it can be changed free of charge after that.
Can Porta arrange a move from Brighton to another part of the UK?

Can I send photos or a video of the house?
