Site waiting on materials?

Tools, parts, fittings, materials. If your site needs it today, Porta can get it there.
Porta is built for ad-hoc and urgent deliveries, not scheduled bulk haulage. The platform works best when you need something moved to site quickly and a standard carrier cannot do it fast enough, or the item is too large or heavy for a parcel service.
Tools & Equipment
Power tools, hand tools, laser levels, generators, compressors, site equipment and safety gear
Building Materials
Fixings, adhesives, sealants, insulation, plasterboard, timber lengths, tiles and sheet materials
Replacement Parts
Mechanical components, electrical fittings, plumbing parts, hinges, locks, valves and anything keeping a job on hold
Drawings & Documents
Architectural plans, engineering drawings, permits, contracts and paperwork that needs to be on site today
Fixtures & Finishes
Doors, window frames, kitchen units, bathroom fittings, worktops, radiators and interior components
Samples & Prototypes
Material samples, finish swatches, mockups and prototypes for client sign-off or site matching
For large or heavy items that standard parcel carriers refuse to handle, Porta's wider network of independent drivers and vehicle types covers the gap. Vehicles on the platform range from cars and small vans through to larger commercial vehicles.
Worth knowing
Porta is not a specialist heavy haulage or plant transport service. Steel beams, scaffolding loads, bulk aggregates and heavy plant machinery requiring HIAB, flatbed or crane vehicles fall outside the platform's scope. For those jobs you will need a dedicated construction logistics provider.
Most construction courier companies want you to set up an account, speak to a rep, and commit to regular volumes. That makes sense for large contractors running multi-year programmes. It does not make sense when you are a subcontractor who needs a box of fixings from Screwfix delivered to a site in Croydon by 2pm.
Porta requires no account setup. Anyone on your team with the collection and delivery addresses can get a quote and book in under a minute. The independent driver goes directly from collection to site. No depot, no overnight sort, no sharing a van with 30 other drops that all take priority over yours.
That direct model is why Porta works for construction. A dedicated driver means your materials arrive when you need them, not when a carrier's route plan happens to pass your postcode.
Tip
Include site access details in your booking notes. Gate codes, site manager contact numbers, specific entrance points and any access restrictions help the independent driver find the right drop-off point without delay.
One driver, one site, one delivery. No depots, no multi-drop routes.
Some site deliveries are urgent. A part has failed, a material has run short, or a supplier has let you down and the trade on site is waiting. Porta's same-day courier service handles these. In most cases an independent driver can collect within a few hours and deliver the same day.
For planned deliveries where you know what is needed and when, Porta's next-day courier service lets you book ahead. This is useful for materials that need to arrive before a specific trade starts, or for fixtures and fittings being delivered ahead of a fit-out phase.
The platform also handles collection from site. If tools need returning to a supplier, samples need sending to a client, or equipment needs moving between sites, book a return trip through Porta the same way.
Materials, tools, parts, fittings
Delivered direct to your site
The platform is used by contractors, subcontractors, sole traders, project managers, architects, interior designers, suppliers and anyone else who needs something moved to or from a construction site without the overhead of a specialist logistics contract.
Common scenarios include a plumber collecting a replacement boiler part from a merchant and having it delivered to the job, a project manager sending architectural drawings to site for sign-off, a kitchen fitter getting worktops delivered from a fabricator, or a supplier sending samples to a client's site for approval.
For businesses with regular or more complex delivery requirements across multiple sites, Porta's business courier page covers how to get in touch for bespoke arrangements.
Porta offers three booking tiers. The right choice depends on the value of what you are sending and how critical it is to the job.

Porta connects customers with independent drivers across England, Scotland and Wales. Site deliveries run regularly between major cities including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield, Nottingham and Southampton, as well as to rural sites, new-build developments and locations where a full postcode may not yet be assigned.
There is no fixed coverage zone. If a driver is available in your area, the platform matches them to your job. Urban areas typically have the most availability and the shortest collection windows. For more remote sites, booking earlier in the day gives you a wider choice of drivers.
Tip
If your site does not yet have a full postcode, use the nearest available postcode and add precise directions or a what3words reference in the booking notes.
Construction moves fast and suppliers do not always keep up. Porta gives you a direct route to a vetted independent driver who will collect from your merchant, supplier or office and deliver straight to site. No account setup, no phone queue, no waiting around. Get a quote, confirm the booking, and keep the job moving.
Keep your site moving
Materials to any site, any day
Can Porta deliver to an active construction site?
Yes. Independent drivers on the platform can deliver to any address you provide, including active construction sites. Include gate codes, site manager contact details and any access restrictions in your booking notes to help the driver find the right drop-off point.
Can a driver collect from a builders merchant or supplier?
Yes. The collection address can be a builders merchant, trade counter, supplier warehouse, your own office or any other location. The driver collects from your specified address and delivers directly to site.
How quickly can a construction courier collect?
For same-day bookings, collection can typically happen within a few hours depending on driver availability in your area. For planned deliveries, you can book ahead and schedule collection for a specific day and time.
Is my delivery insured?
It depends on your booking tier. Essential bookings have no Porta-managed goods-in-transit insurance. Standard bookings include insurance claim support arranged via Porta. Premium adds faster resolution and payouts where applicable. Real-Time SMS Updates are included on Standard and Premium bookings only.
Can Porta handle heavy plant or bulk materials?
Porta is built for ad-hoc deliveries of tools, parts, fittings, fixtures and building materials that fit in a van or commercial vehicle. Steel beams, scaffolding loads, bulk aggregates and heavy plant requiring HIAB or flatbed transport fall outside the platform's scope. For those items you will need a specialist construction haulier.
What if my site does not have a postcode yet?
Use the nearest available postcode and add precise directions or a what3words reference in the booking notes. The independent driver will use these to find your site.
What payment methods does Porta accept?
All payments go through Stripe on the Porta platform. Accepted methods include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Revolut. No cash is accepted at any point. Neither Porta nor its Moving Partners take cash payments.
